About Natasha |
|
Natasha Straley is a wanderlust-filled independent filmmaker working across the country - from New York City to Texas, Los Angeles and in between. Her career in the entertainment realm began as an actor before accepting roles on the other side of the camera in 2010. She worked on various film productions sifting through every department until directing naturally rose to the surface in 2016.
Her work focuses on both comedic and dramatic scripted content diving into uncomfortable nuances of behaviors and relationships. She is driven by subtle screenplays which push boundaries and examine the grey area between right and wrong, telling stories intended to uplift and empower individuals. These stories support equality and are told from HER point of view. She has directed countless short films, which have screened at festivals across the country. She has been awarded the San Antonio Film Commission Local Filmmaker Grant in 2017 and 2019. She was awarded the Female Filmmaker of the Year Award from Austin Revolution Film Festival, 2018. Her first feature screenplay was a Second Rounder at Austin Film Festival 2021. Select directing credits include the music video response to Lee Brice's country music song "One of Them Girls" with vocalist Shayne Marie singing "One of Them Guys"; the comedic social commentary - CAULIFLOWER; the delicately nuanced slice-of-life film, FINISHED. Select producing credits include DRAW UP & STARE (with Melissa Leo and Michael O'Keefe written by Emily Donahoe); A LIFE IN TECHNICOLOR (starring Josey Porras, directed by Alex Ramirez); PICKUP (with Mandy Evans, Jim True-Frost and Griffon Robert Faulkner, written by Jessica Blank, directed by Jeremiah Kipp). Select acting credits include THE BLACKLIST (with James Spader and David Costabile on NBC), DIGGING OUT, BRUNCH ON SUNDAYS, and THE LEFTOVERS feature film. Natasha received her BFA in Acting & Directing from Texas State University. She was born in DC and lived across the world as a military kid. Texas became her home before moving to New York City. She currently resides wherever she happens to be. |
